Things to Do

Restaurants

Restaurant Max: Our favourite Indonesian restaurant in Amsterdam. Highly recommend the traditional Rijsttafel for the table

Toscanini: Exceptional Italian restaurant (book early!)

Cafe de Klepel: French bistro with a seasonal 3 or 4 course menu that changes daily

Salmuera: Trendy Latin American restaurant

Restaurant Moeders or Restaurant Zwaantje: both restaurants offer traditional Dutch food in unique but cozy settings

The Seafood Bar: Few locations available, but we suggest going to the one by Vondelpark for lunch after a morning museum visit

Kaasbar Amsterdam: Cheese, cheese and more cheese (on a rotating belt)

Utage Sake Bar: A little further from the city centre, but worth the trip. Probably one of the best dinners we've had in Amsterdam

Pizza Project: Good pizza and vibes

A-Fusion Food & Drinks: Great Japanese Tapas

Foodhallen: Can't decide what to eat? The food hall overs lots of great options (though as-is the case with most food halls, you can expect a slight premium on prices)

Dumplings (by Westerpark): Perfect post wedding food. This is essentially a food truck offering delicious dumplings and must try pekking duck crepes.

Pancakes: The Dutch have their own unique take on pancakes, which are always fun to try. There are several places to try including Upstairs Pannenkoeken, Pancake Bakery or Pancakes Amsterdam

Bars

Proeflokaal A. van Wees: Our favourite place to grab a drink and some Dutch snacks in Amsterdam. Beautiful indoor space or if the weather is nice grab a spot by the canal. Try their genever tasting or ask for a Kopstootjes "headbutt" which is a beer and genever pairing.

Cafe Pieper: Cozy brown cafe

Glouglou: Natural wine bar in de Pijp

Flying Dutchmen or Dutch Courage: Cocktail bars

Brouwerij't IJ: Local Dutch Brewery next to landmark windmill

The Waterhole: Dive bar with live music

Duke of Tokyo: Karaoke Bar

The Papeneiland Cafe: Nice bar on the corner of two canals. If full, you can try Cafe Thijssen up the street for a chill drink

De Twee Zwaantjes: Intimate brown cafe. About as Dutch as it gets

THINGS TO DO

Canal Tour: A must do in Amsterdam. There are lots of options for guided tours. Our favourite is Flagship Saloon boat with wine and cheese but there are lots of options across providers at varying price levels. You can also rent your own boat (Mokumboot or Sloepdelen).

Markets: Noordermarkt (Saturday market, also check out Lindengrachtmarkt around the corner), Bloemenmarkt (floating flower market, open daily), Albert Cuyp Markt (open Mon-Sat),

Museums: Anne Frank is a must for first timers (be mindful of steep stairs - must book early), Van Gosh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Maritime Museum, Rembrandt House

Parks: Vondelpark or Westerpark are both great options and have cafe's nearby to grab a coffee or meal

Amsterdam Zoo (ARTIS): Never been but pretty crazy there is a full zoo right in the city centre. It is the oldest zoo in the Netherlands and fifth oldest zoo in the world.

Heineken Experience or House of Bols: Both are fun experiences for beer or cocktail enthusiasts

Shopping: The Nine Streets (lots of great shops both local and known brands), P.C Hooftstrat (luxury shopping street), De Bijenkorf (biggest department store), Leidsestraat (main shopping street with a wide range of storefronts)

Day Trips from Amsterdam Accessible by Train: Haarlem (check out the beautiful, historic city where Kirsten and Dirk live!), Zandvoort Beach (beach town with lots of beach clubs and restaurants on the water), Zaanse Schans (see beautiful Dutch windmills, just be mindful it can be quite touristy), Utrecht (beautiful city known for medieval centre and beautiful canals), the Hague (Dutch political center of the Netherlands featuring great restaurants and museums including Mauritshuis - home of the famous Girl with a Pearl Earing painting)
